Steve Bruce willing to wait for the right Aston Villa targets
Steve Bruce has vowed to be brave and wait for the right targets in the January transfer window as Villa prepare a £1million bid for Barnsley's Conor Hourihane.
The 25-year-old midfielder is high on the club's wishlist and they are set to rival Sheffield Wednesday for his signature.
With Bruce eager to bolster his midfield, Villa are also hopeful of completing a deal for Nottingham Forest's Henri Lansbury by the end of the month, while the manager has also confirmed an interest in Norwich City's Robbie Brady. But he has missed out on Leicester City winger Jeffrey Schlupp, who is joining Crystal Palace in a £12million deal.
Villa were prepared to rival several Premier League clubs for the 24-year-old but were unable to convince him to drop down into the Championship.
Sam Johnstone remains the only arrival so far this month after joining from Manchester United on loan, with fellow goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini yesterday leaving on an 18-month loan deal to Atalanta. Bruce has admitted some frustration at a lack of further incomings but has warned he won't spend money just for the sake of it.
"It would be quite easy for me to have six signings sitting here, parading them all," he said. "But I want quality so that the team improves."
