Steve Bruce says Villa are set for a season-defining December as they face a hectic Championship schedule.

The Villa manager believes confidence is rising among his players but they still face "a huge, huge month" with six matches ahead of them before the new year.

He said: "We have had a steady increase in the level of performance and a steady increase in points.

"We are now coming into December – it's a huge, huge month. It's a big, big month with six games to play. It's a critical period for us. We go into it buoyed with a little bit of confidence and looking forward to the big challenge of it.

"For me, this is the defining month. It will define the season because of the number of games we play and if you can have a successful December it leaves you in good stead for the New Year and beyond."

Bruce said his players must also learn to deal with pressure of expectancy brought about by their recent resurgence in form. "There'll be a few looking over their shoulders, which is good," said Bruce.

"But there is a big expectation. You have to be a big player and a good player to handle that expectation.

"We've done very little yet. There's a long way to go. But, quietly, with a few results, we're doing ok.

"This club's had a hammering over the last 18 months, but it's vitally important to see that bit of confidence coming through.

"We're still a 'work in progress' but there's been a huge improvement in seven weeks and we're now finding a way to win."
