Abel Hernandez eyes reunion with Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce
Hull City striker Abel Hernandez is eager to join up with former boss Steve Bruce at Villa Park, according to reports.
The 26-year-old striker does not see his future at the KCOM Stadium, and was willing to move in the summer, when he was linked with several clubs.
Hull offered him a bumper new long-term contract which he turned down, and with Mike Phelan's team struggling in the Premier League, the Uruguayan is hoping to jump ship in January.
Bruce signed Hernandez when he was manager at Hull. However, he already has six strikers at Villa Park, including expensive summer signings Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack.
He also handed long-serving Gabby Agbonlahor his first start of the season against Brighton on Friday.
"Gabby has played 300-odd games for this club and scored 80-odd goals all in the Premier League," said Bruce. "He's desperate to go and prove that he's got something to offer.
"Fair play to him because in six weeks he's lost over six kilos. The way he's trained over the last few weeks, I thought he deserved to start."
Villa have also been linked with a January swoop for Sheffield Wednesday's 32-year-old keeper Keiren Westwood and Crystal Palace's 24-year-old former Birmingham midfielder Jordon Mutch.
