Aston Villa home wins are vital, claims Gary Gardner

Midfielder Gary Gardner reckons making the most of home comforts will be vital to Villa continuing their climb up the Championship table.

Steve Bruce's side head into Saturday's home game with Blackburn aiming to build a four-game unbeaten run under the new manager.

Gardner, who scored his first goal for the club in Sunday's 1-1 derby draw at Blues, believes victories at Villa Park are now important to continuing the momentum. Villa are unbeaten at home this season but have only twice taken three points.

Gardner said: "The important thing now is to move on to Saturday and get three points there. We have got to win our home games and push on now.

"The gaffer has come in and has given us a massive confidence boost. We go into games now feeling organised, we know what we are doing. Every player knows their job. I can't see us losing many games this year."

Villa will be without Jordan Ayew for Saturday's game after the forward picked up a fifth booking of the season at St Andrew's.

There will, however, be a new face on the bench after Villa yesterday confirmed the appointment of Gary Walsh as goalkeeping coach.

The 48-year-old has joined first-team coach Stephen Clemence in swapping Hull City's KCOM Stadium for Villa Park and replaces Massimo Battara, who left the club last month.
