Aston Villa wait on Jack Grealish FA sanction for stamp

Villa are awaiting news from The FA on whether Jack Grealish will face retrospective punishment for his alleged stamp against Wolves on Saturday evening.

The midfielder appeared to press his studs down on the leg of Molineux counterpart Conor Coady five minutes before the break during the 1-1 draw.

Grealish went unpunished for his actions, while Coady and Ross McCormack were booked for their part in the ensuing melee.

A decision is likely to be made today, as referee David Coote's match report reaches the governing body.

Boss Steve Bruce, overseeing his first match since being appointed Roberto Di Matteo's successor last Wednesday, played down the incident as 'handbags', while praising Mr Coote's decision.

While Wolves chief Walter Zenga thought the 21-year-old was fortunate not to be dismissed.

"Lucky? I think it was handbags, maybe in Italy," said Bruce.

"The initial challenge? I haven't seen it. Was it bad? "I think the referee handled it the way he should have done and got it spot on."

Grealish, who has scored twice in 11 outings so far this term, endured his fair share of off-field incidents across a short career.

The Solihull-born star was pictured apparently intoxicated in Tenerife last summer, and has also been caught allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide.

Last November, Grealish reacted to Villa's 4-0 thrashing at Everton by remaining in the north east and partying to the early hours of the morning.

Last month, he was told to grow up by ex-boss Di Matteo after West Midlands Police put an end to a hotel party that lasted until 7.45am.

Meanwhile, Villa have injury concerns to defensive duo Micah Richards and Tommy Elphick ahead of tomorrow night's trip to Reading.

They picked up calf knocks against Wolves and are "serious doubts" for the clash in Berkshire against the seventh-placed Royals
