Aston Villa and Virgin Trains do battle on Twitter

We know what you're thinking – a Twitter face-off between these two was always going to happen.

Okay perhaps not. In fact, unless you're a native fan off to an away game, Aston Villa and Virgin Trains are probably two things you've never considered in the same sentence before. So how on earth did this come about?

Okay, so Virgin Trains started it

That's a low blow, Di Matteo has only just left the club, after 124 days in charge, and we think they might be implying Villa's options are limited…

But Villa had a rebuttal

Oo! Right in the delayed train timetable…

Then the train company got personal

Villa only have one win in 11 games in the Championship this season, and only got three in an entire Premier League season last year.

So Villa decided to defend their record

Quite a trophy cabinet to be fair. It's been 20 years since Villa won any of those though.

Thus Virgin challenged Villa, obviously

A brave move from Virgin Trains. It's all fun and games when it's beef on Twitter but challenging a professional football team to a match could get messy no matter where they are in the table – especially as Virgin appear to have only nine players…

Then the public stepped in

Oh my. How will Virgin save themselves?

Reasonable move

Ouch!

Good save!

So not everyone was best pleased with the Twitter battle, but some can't wait for more.

Indeed Jack. Indeed.
