The Daily Telegraph last night claimed Black, who took over at Villa last season following the departure of Remi Garde, had spoken to an undercover reporter about how to allegedly bribe lower league club officials.

Last night Southampton, where Black is now assistant manager, said: "We have contacted The FA and The Premier League, and intend to work closely with both bodies on this matter when the facts become clear."

The club said the newspaper had declined to share its information with them.
