Aaron Tshibola: Aston Villa's goal hero says club can put frighteners on the Championship
Goal hero Aaron Tshibola reckons it is only a matter of time before Villa's 'frightening' team begin climbing the Championship.
The 21-year-old netted his first goal for the club following his summer move from Reading to salvage a 1-1 draw against Newcastle at Villa Park on Saturday.
Villa have won just one of their opening nine league fixtures and sit 17th in the table. But after a summer which saw nine new players arrive at the club, Tshibola believes they have more than enough quality to challenge near the top.
"We were able to show our true colours in the second half and showed everyone what we can do," he said. "We started off slow but we've got a frightening team. The quality we have is there for everyone to see.
"We proved in the second half that we are the better opponent. We showed that with the football we were playing."
Villa had trailed to an own goal by skipper Tommy Elphick and Newcastle squandered several chances to go further ahead before a late rally from the home team. Tshibola added: "It's going to take a bit of time to gel. But every day we're on the training park, we're improving. We're learning everything new about each other and step by step we'll get there.
"As a team collectively we have frightening players. Players with experience. I'm learning from every single one of them. Once it clicks, people will recognise. We're getting there."
Former Villa defender Ciaran Clark, meanwhile, felt the draw was a fair result. The 26-year-old was one of 14 players to leave Villa Park over the course of the last transfer window when he joined Newcastle in a £5million deal. On Saturday, he was awarded the man-of-the-match award for his part in repelling the home team's late onslaught.
Clark said: "There was just that one slip there and they get it in net and it's a draw but I think overall it's probably a fair result.
"It was nice to come back and see some familiar faces that I keep in touch with."
