Roberto Di Matteo: Jack Grealish must learn

Roberto Di Matteo has warned Jack Grealish he must start learning from his mistakes after the midfielder was slapped with a hefty fine for his latest off-field indiscretion.

Grealish was also suspended for Saturday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle following a club investigation into claims he attended an early-morning party at a Birmingham hotel.

Di Matteo confirmed the punishment in his post-game press conference and hopes a line can now be drawn under the incident, which was not the first in Grealish's young career.

"We've fined the boy and he was suspended for today's game," he said. "Tomorrow he will be back with the group and available for selection. We'll move on.

"That's the end of the matter as far as the club is concerned. It's not the first time but he needs to learn from the past.

"The only one who can do that is himself. We will try and support him in any way we can but he needs to make the right decisions.

"He is 21 now and he needs to understand what kind of career he's got ahead of him. As long as he does what he's supposed to do and he is part of the group, then we will treat him like everybody else."

Grealish was alleged to have attended a party last weekend at the Park Regis hotel, on Broad Street, which lasted until 8am.

It was claimed the bash involved the legal high nitrous oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas, though there was no suggestion Grealish himself used the drug.
