Aston Villa suspend Jack Grealish for one match after party high jinks
Jack Grealish has been suspended for one game and fined after Aston Villa concluded their investigation into the midfielder's latest off-field indiscretion.
The 21-year-old was left out of the squad for Saturday's home game with Newcastle, with boss Roberto Di Matteo confirming before kick-off the omission was one part of the club's punishment.
Grealish, who signed a new contract at Villa Park earlier this month, was alleged to have attended an early-hours party at Birmingham's Park Regis Hotel last weekend.
It was claimed the party included balloons filled nitrous oxide, known more commonly as 'hippy crack' - although there is no suggestion Grealish himself used the legal high.
Birmingham-born Grealish is regarded as one of the brightest prospects to have come through Villa's academy but his short-career has contained a number of off-field incidents. Di Matteo has warned the player he must "grow up quickly" or risk jeopardising his future career.
