Aston Villa blog: Losing faith in Roberto

Instead of writing this blog after every game, perhaps I should just use the same one for every week!

It's getting a bit predictable at Villa this season, draw after painful draw. There can only be one man to blame for the current malaise sweeping through the club and that's Roberto Di Matteo...writes Villa blogger Justin Hawthorne.

I thought he was a good appointment at the start of the season, especially with messrs Bond and Clark backing him up. But now I'm beginning to start questioning him and his tactics.

And saying this so early in the season isn't a good place to be at. But the cold hard facts are eight points from eight games.

With this squad, that just isn't good enough and it's needs sorting very quickly or we can kiss goodbye to any kind of promotion, let alone automatic!

He needs to be more dynamic and aggressive with his team and stop waiting for things to happen.

Ipswich set up to frustrate and we didn't have the answer to break them down. The no shots on target stat was a repeat from the dark days of last season.

The team selection seems a bit like he's picking names out of a hat and the change in formation looked a bit panicky.

I'm praying Tshibola is fit for the Newcastle game next Saturday as I do think he will make an impact alongside Jedinak.

I'd also revert to good old fashioned 4-4-2 with Adomah and Grealish offering the threat from out wide.

I would throw McCormack up top with Kodjia as that's his best position for me. With 50+ goals between them last season, surely they will start finding the net regularly?

I'm trying so hard to stay positive amongst my friends and family. We just need a win and win quickly.

Newcastle next Saturday evening will do for starters.

So for now I'm staying in glass half-full mode, but for how long though I'm not sure. UTV
