The 26-year-old completed his medical at Bodymoor Heath this morning before penning a four-year contract.

It has been reported the fee could rise to as high as £15 million for the former Angers striker.

He has been at the Robins for a just over a year following a £2m move from French side Angers.

He scored 20 goals in 48 appearances for the Ashton Gate outfit last season.

He will now link up with the Ivory Coast for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone on Saturday before returning to Bodymoor Heath.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo said: "We are really pleased to have secured the services of Jonathan.

"He is a proven goalscorer and hopefully he'll play an important part in what we hope will be a successful season for the club."

The move comes after Villa had been looking to recruit Hull City striker Abel Hernandez amid reports of a £20m bid.

However, that move now looks extremely unlikely after Villa owner Dr Tony Xia tweeted that Kodija was 'the best choice for us'.
