Joleon Lescott joins AEK Athens
Joleon Lescott has left Villa and joined AEK Athens on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old defender has signed a two-year deal with the Greek club, bringing to an end a nightmare 12 months at Villa Park.
A £2.5million signing from Albion on transfer deadline day, the former England international endured a torrid season at his boyhood club.
Villa finished rock bottom of the Premier League, losing a club record 27 games while Lescott, who struggled for consistent form, incurred the wrath of supporters when he tweeted a picture of an expensive sportscar just hours after the club had been beaten 6-0 at home by Liverpool.
Despite playing a part in pre-season under Roberto Di Matteo, the centre-back was quickly told he was not part of the new manager's plans.
Lescott almost moved to Rangers earlier this month, only to turn the deal down at the last minute for "family reasons".
He becomes the third defender to leave the club in the space of four days following left-back Joe Bennett's move to Cardiff City and Jores Okore's switch to FC Copenhagen.
