Aston Villa look to close out Mile Jedinak deal

Villa were today aiming to complete the signing of midfielder Mile Jedinak from Crystal Palace.

The 32-year-old was yesterday understood to be undergoing a medical ahead of a proposed £4million transfer, though the deal will not be sealed in time for him to feature in tonight's home game with Huddersfield Town.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo has been eager to bolster his midfield following the departures of Idrissa Gana and Carlos Sanchez. Jedinak, who captained Palace to promotion from the Championship in 2013, is viewed as possessing the right kind of character as the manager continues his transformation of Villa's dressing room culture.

The Australian international's future at Selhurst Park had been cast into doubt from the moment he was stripped of the captaincy earlier this month. Despite playing for the Eagles in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Albion, he now looks certain to become Villa's sixth signing of the transfer window. Di Matteo is determined to make further additions and Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford remains a possible loan target.
