Roberto Di Matteo: We're hungry for more Aston Villa recruits
Boss Roberto Di Matteo insists Villa are being as pro-active as possible in their efforts to bring in new players.
With the Championship campaign less than a week away, the manager is eager to add several new faces to his squad, most notably a striker.
Though he is also in the process of off-loading several players deemed surplus to requirements, Di Matteo has stressed he is not under pressure to move players out before bringing anyone else in.
"It's not like we're just sitting around just waiting," he said. We've got some targets that we're working on and we know that some players might leave. It will be in time."
Di Matteo, who is also keen to add a creative midfielder, has been linked with moves for several strikers including Fulham's Ross McCormack, Hull City's Abel Hernandez and Albion's Rickie Lambert.
He added: "It's always a matter of knowing your realistic targets and being able to persuade them to come to our club.
"We have some targets who we are working on so we shall see how we get on."
Di Matteo has been charged with turning around Villa's fortunes following relegation from the Premier League and admits his team at present remains a work in progress.
Yet he has stressed the club's troubles last term, when they won just three league games and finished bottom of the top flight, have not hindered his pursuit of players this summer.
Villa signed Tommy Elphick, Pierluigi Gollini and Aaron Tshibola early in his reign and Di Matteo said: "The three players who have signed had interest from other clubs as well.
"They were very happy to come here and be involved in this new project. We need players like that."
