Villa issue hands off Idrissa Gana warning

Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has issued a hands-off warning to any club thinking of taking Idrissa Gana this summer.

Everton are interested in taking Gana back to the Premier League and were last night reported to have triggered a release clause in the Senegalese international's contract.

However, Wyness posted a defiant message on Twitter during Villa's latest pre-season friendly at League Two outfit Cambridge United.

Gana, 26, was one of Villa's better performers last season and impressed despite their relegation from the top flight.

One player Villa would like to be rid of, so they can trim their bloated squad, is Micah Richards.

However, Roberto Di Matteo's hopes of offloading the player have taken a setback after Sunderland opted against a move for the former England international.

The Black Cats had been primed to trigger a £5million release clause in the defender's contract, prior to Sam Allardyce's departure from the Stadium of Light last week to become England manager.

His replacement, David Moyes, has now decided to explore other targets meaning Villa will need to find another taker for Richards, who won the Premier League in 2011-12 with Manchester City.
