Aston Villa's Carles Gil joins Deportivo on loan
Aston Villa have confirmed the exit of Carles Gil with the midfielder joining Deportivo on a one-year loan deal.
The 23-year-old Spaniard had been eager to depart since Villa's relegation from the Premier League last season.
Gil has initially joined Deportivo on a one-year loan deal but the Spanish club have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.
Signed from Valencia by former boss Paul Lambert for £3.2million in January last year, Gil initially made a strong impression by scoring a stunning goal against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.
But he found his chances limited when Lambert was axed and replaced by Tim Sherwood. Last season he struggled for consistency as Villa languished at the foot of the table for almost the entire campaign.
He follows defender Jose Angel Crespo through the exit door at Villa though many more departures are expected as manager Roberto Di Matteo looks to trim a bloated squad.
