Tony Xia keen to restore Villa's glories
Tony Xia has expressed his desire to take Aston Villa back to their "rightful place" after being officially unveiled as the club's new owner.
The Beijing businessman held his first press conference at Villa Park on Wednesday, alongside new manager Roberto Di Matteo and Keith Wyness, who will be appointed the club's new chief executive.
Villa were relegated from the Premier League last season and now face a rebuilding job in the Championship, but Xia has big ambitions and is relishing the challenge.
He said: "This is a new challenge and I am looking forward to working with Roberto, Keith and everyone else.
"I want to take this club back to the right place. Aston Villa are the most historic club with a huge fanbase, I think it is a club with great, great potential."
Xia is convinced Di Matteo, who was confirmed as the club's new manager earlier this month, was very much the right man to take Villa back to the top flight.
He said: "Roberto knows the Championship, he knows the Premier League and Europe, he has great experience.
"He is the most intelligent coach I have known. I am very sure he is the right one."
