Nigel Spink: Tony Xia should excite Villa
Aston Villa legend Nigel Spink reckons Tony Xia's £75million takeover could prove an exciting new dawn for the club.
Xia is expected to formally be announced as the claret and blues' new owner today, having completed the final stage of his buy-out of Randy Lerner.
The Beijing businessman will give new manager Roberto Di Matteo up to £50million to spend in revamping a squad which finished rock bottom of the Premier League.
European Cup-winning goalkeeper Spink believes long-suffering supporters now have a reason to be positive.
He said: "It is an exciting time, I am pleased it is all going through. The new owner needs to restore confidence and that will only come with actions."
Xia met with Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey in London yesterday morning as he formally completed the league's fit and proper persons test.
He later posted a message on Chinese social media site Weibo, which read: "Completed the acquisition formalities! The beginning of a journey unknown but worth the challenge!"
Midfielder Jordan Veretout has, meanwhile, been linked with a move away from Villa this summer, with both Bournemouth and Burnley reported to be interested.
