Next Aston Villa manager: Club in limbo as they wait to be taken over
Villa's preparations for life in the Championship remain in limbo as the club continues to wait for Dr Tony Xia to complete his takeover.
According to reports, neither the players nor coaching staff have been given a date to return for pre-season training – with the club still yet to appoint ex-Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo as manager.
Villa are currently awaiting clearance from the Premier League and Football League that their new officials have passed the fit and proper person test ahead of a change of ownership.
But until then, plans for next season are being held up with the playing squad believed to have been told to await instructions following the defeat to Arsenal on the last day of the season.
Meanwhile, fans remain concerned the delay could see them miss out on transfer targets as the club continues to be linked with a move for Fulham's Ross McCormack.
Reports in London suggest relegated trio Newcastle, Norwich and Villa are all chasing the forward who has netted 38 times in nearly 100 appearances for the Cottagers.
However, Premier League Crystal Palace are also thought to be in the hunt for the striker.
