Eric Black has 'no idea' on his Aston Villa future

Caretaker boss Eric Black claims he has 'no idea' over his own future at Villa beyond next Sunday's final game at Arsenal.

The Scot, who first joined the club as part of Remi Garde's backroom staff, has been in temporary charge since the Frenchman's departure by mutual consent in late March.

With takeover talks ongoing and a new manager set to be appointed, it looks likely Black will also leave when the season is complete.

The 52-year-old insists he has held no discussions over his own fate.

"I've no idea (what the future holds)," he said.

"I will take the game next week and there are an awful lot of things going on behind the scenes in terms of a new owner and new manager.

"That's not my concern. I don't have anything pencilled in. I am just holding the fort at the moment with one more game to go."

Black, however, remains confident the current uncertainty enveloping Villa Park will not hamper the club's pre-season preparations, expressing confidence a new manager would "do that quite quickly".

Saturday's 0-0 home draw with Newcastle ended Villa's 11-game losing run and saw them avoid setting a new club record for consecutive losses.

It also represented a first point for Black since taking charge.

He said: "It is relief more than anything else. The main aim and the most important factor is to make sure some of these supporters come back with slightly more optimism than they would have."

Black also reserved praise for teenage defender Kevin Toner, who again impressed in just his second Premier League start.

"Andros Townsend has been their best player for the last few games. He kept him quiet," said Black. "It was a big ask for Kevin, but my goodness did he stand up to it."
