Eric Black: Aston Villa experience has provided no enjoyment

Eric Black admits he has found almost no enjoyment in his role as Villa's caretaker boss, declaring: "This is not a normal football job".

The Scot has even joked he should have taken his wife's advice and rejected the post, after a tumultuous month since he replaced Remi Garde in the hotseat.

Villa have lost all four games of which he has taken charge, while their relegation from the Premier League has been confirmed.

Black has also had to deal with off-the-field controversies involving striker Gabriel Agbonlahor and defender Jores Okore and takes Villa to Watford tomorrow looking to avoid a club record equalling 11th straight league defeat.

The 52-year-old, who joined Garde's backroom team in February, admitted his wife had warned him against taking the job and joked: "People can see she was right and I was wrong!"

He continued: "I've got to be honest I don't think there's been a lot of enjoyment.

"I don't want it to sound like I'm looking for sympathy because I'm not but there's a lot of negativity around, especially over the last seven or eight weeks and that has made it hard.

"This is not a normal job in football, you're not working with normal football elements here.

"But the elements are what they are and I'm caretaker manager so I will do what I can to make sure it remains professional and hopefully get a result Saturday."

Black expects to remain in charge until the end of the season as Villa continue their search for a new manager, though the former Blues assistant admits to being in the dark over his own future.

"I'm taking it on until the last game as far as I know and that will be as far as I go with the team," he said.

"I was given the remit to work until we have a new manager.

"I would imagine now it will be until the last game but I don't know in terms of timescale.

"I've no idea, I don't know how it will turn out."
