Stan Collymore glad to see Tom Fox leave Villa
Former striker Stan Collymore is 'delighted' fan pressure has brought about the departure of Villa chief executive Tom Fox.
Fox stepped down from the club yesterday evening, just two days after sporting director Hendrik Almstadt departed.
And Cannock-based ex-Villa star Collymore thinks Fox is paying the price for his failure to keep Villa in the Premier League.
The American, who was appointed in August 2014, had become a lightening rod for fan frustrations after a disastrous season, which looks certain to end in relegation from the Premier League.
His exit comes as new chairman Steve Hollis continues his review of the club. Hollis now takes on the position of executive chairman.
And Collymore said: "Hollis has come into the club and taken action, something that has been sadly lacking at Villa Park in recent years."
He added: "I'm delighted. I met Tom Fox for a coffee last summer at Villa Park.
"At the time, he suggested Fabian Delph would be staying and we were getting an exciting young director of football and they would be investing in the playing staff.
"However, since then, it has become obvious things were not going that way.
"I don't like to see anyone lose their job but he has been very handsomely paid to keep Villa in the Premier League, to spend money on the right players.
"Instead he took a massive punt on bringing people in without the right experience."
