The Frenchman replaced Tim Sherwood in November but has been unable to lift the claret and blues off the foot of the Premier League.

Villa have won just two of his 18 games in charge and are now nine points adrift of safety.

They host Tottenham on Sunday - the same opponents they faced after Garde was appointed.

Asked if there had been progress since then, the manager said: "I am not sure it's very impressive if there is progress because we are still bottom of the league.

"We had made progress during January and since then we are struggling again to win points."

New chairman Steve Hollis, who was appointed in January, is currently carrying out a review into the club's disastrous season and Garde, who is set to consider his position at the end of the season, has been asked what the problems are.

"This is a question I have been asked by the people who are in charge of assessing what is wrong," he said. "I gave my opinion, I can't tell you directly today.

"At the top of the club there is a lot of questions, everybody is trying to understand why Villa is in this bad position and what we can do to correct it."

When asked about his own position, Garde replied: "I have a contract and I never said I wanted to leave this football club."
