Cup loss shows how Villa have tumbled

Another week another loss to add to our painful season, this time in the FA Cup and it seems like only yesterday that we were all singing 'Abide With Me' last May.

Little did we know then what awaited us in the next 90 minutes and, indeed, the next nine months,

So 4-0 at home to Manchester City and I'm sure many hoped for better but expected the worst and as has been on many occasions this season, the worst is what we witnessed.

Another horror show at the back, little attacking prowess from the midfield and no cutting edge up top.

The biggest worry now is the effect this loss will have on our next two league games that come quickly over the next week.

Our mini revival, if that's what you can call it, will look like a distant memory if we lose the next two. However, two wins and all will be forgiven and things might look a bit brighter.

I watched a more or less West Ham first-team struggle to break down a much-changed Liverpool side last week and, if we could just find a goalscorer from somewhere, you never know.

On that subject, the enigma that is Gabby Agbonlahor returned to the fold on Saturday and will not be sold in this window.

Gabby himself really splits opinion among fans, a quick and strong striker who, on the face of it, has all the attributes to be a top striker.

But his goals ratio especially over the last five or six seasons is nothing short of woeful. But all will be forgiven should he bang a few in over the remaining games.

With the transfer window coming towards a close it looks like we will be relying on last minute loans or cast offs, a very sad state of affairs indeed to all us Villa fans.

I'm going to finish on a positive and I think we might just win one tomorrow night - I don't know why (I think this probably more in hope.)

But one thing I do know is the fans will be there cheering them all on in their thousands, if only the players shared our passion, we could just squeak out of this mess. Up the Villa!
