Villa fighting to save Lovre Kalinic keeper deal
Villa are attempting to resurrect a deal for Hadjuk Split goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic.
The 25-year-old Croatian international had been poised for a £4.9million switch to Villa Park, only for the move to collapse when he was denied a work permit.
A first appeal against the FA's decision was rejected but Villa are now considering a second as boss Remi Garde looks to snare a player he sees as the ideal replacement for Brad Guzan. The Frenchman, who has experienced continued frustration in attempts to bolster his squad, did at least complete his first signing of January yesterday when Eric Black was confirmed as the club's new assistant manager.
Black, who speaks fluent French, was Garde's own choice to take up the position and took training at Bodymoor Heath yesterday.
"I'm pleased to welcome Eric to the football club and I'm really looking forward to working with him," said Garde.
"He will work alongside Reginald Ray, Robert Duverne and Tony Parks as part of my coaching staff.
"Eric brings a wealth of experience and excellent knowledge of English football and he will help me improve the level of the team."
