Remi Garde has highlighted the form of Jordan Ayew as a bright spot in an otherwise depressing run of form.

Ayew scored a late goal in Saturday's defeat to Watford and his lively performances have given some cheer to an otherwise downbeat Villa Park faithful.

And Garde praised Ayew's impact and commitment in his performances after adjusting to life in a different country and league following his £9million transfer from Lorient in France during the summer.

"I'm very happy with Jordan's performance. He's very committed to the team," said the boss.

"He's a wonderful player who runs on the pitch with high intensity – he sprints.

"I'm very happy because it's not easy to play in his position because he has to run a lot everywhere – defensively, offensively and for me he's shown the right way to the other players as well.

"He's not the only one, of course, but I'd like to underline his displays

"He has to show everybody that he can be a very good player."
