Christophe Galtier in the frame for Villa job
St Etienne boss Christophe Galtier has emerged as a surprise alternative to become the new Aston Villa boss, should they fail to land top target Remi Garde.
Galtier has now been installed as second favourite to succeed Tim Sherwood by the bookmakers.
According to reports, Villa are big admirers of the 49-year-old, who was assistant to fellow Frenchman Alain Perrin during his brief spell at Portsmouth in 2005.
Garde remains the club's first choice, but negotiations have hit a stumbling block over his choice of backroom staff.
Gerard Baticle and Bruno Genesio are both currently employed by Lyon and the French club have refused Villa permission to speak to them.
Reports suggest Garde's appointment at Villa Park hinges on both men joining him and Galtier would appear a viable alternative.
