Tim Sherwood sacked: Villa's Remi Garde pursuit hits snag
Villa's pursuit of Remi Garde has hit a snag over the Frenchman's proposed backroom staff.
Garde, 49, remains the front-runner to replace Tim Sherwood in the Villa Park hotseat.
But negotiations with the former Lyon manager have encountered a stumbling block, as he wants to bring his former coaching team of Gerard Baticle and Bruno Genesio with him to England.
Both are still employed by the French club, who are refusing Villa permission to speak to them.
Robert Duverne, meanwhile, who Garde also wants to include in his backroom staff, is struggling to secure his release from Metz.
Villa remain hopeful the issue can be resolved but while Garde remains their preferred candidate, the hold-up means they will consider other targets.
Former Manchester United boss David Moyes remains a possibility while ex-Sunderland chief Gus Poyet has been installed as third favourite by the bookmakers.
The Uruguayan has been out of work since being sacked by the Black Cats in March, following a 4-0 home defeat to Villa.
