Micah Richards' 'buzz' with Villa support
Villa defender Micah Richards today admitted the fans' reaction to his arrival has given him a "buzz" about playing for the club.
The former England right-back, who was born in Birmingham, came back to his hometown after signing a four-year contract last month.
Richards was given a free transfer by Manchester City, having spent the last season of his 10 years with City on loan at Italian side Fiorentina.
The 27-year-old is now looking to revitalise his career at Villa Park and has been humbled by the support he's received from the claret and blue faithful.
He said: "It's been great to see the positive comments on social media from Villa fans about me signing for the club. That's given me a buzz definitely. I am delighted to be here.
"I've very pleased the fans think highly of me and are showing me big respect. That means a lot to me. I think it must be because of what I've managed to achieve at Man City.
"But I don't want to rest on my laurels. I want to work hard and show what I can do. Some players in the game almost have the mentality that what they've done in the past is enough.
"I'm not like that at all. What I have done at City is behind me now. You've got to earn the right every week to play. You can't live off the past. It's all about the present.
"I want to give my all. I always give 100 per cent. Fans will realise that about me very quickly. I can't wait to start."
