Joe Cole is talking up the about-turn at Villa Park which will see Paul Lambert recall his bomb squad back to battle.

The 32-year-old former England star says his football fires are burning again following his free transfer from West Ham.

Cole's arrival is another signal of the 'needs-must strategy change by Lambert who has been trying to rebuild Villa on younger recruits from around the league and beyond in the last two seasons.

But with owner Randy Lerner restricting spending as he tries to sell the club, Lambert has been forced to acknowledge discarded players such as Darren Bent and Charles N'Zogbia will come back into play. But Cole sees that as a positive as he surveyed the challenge of Villa making progress up the league.

"I think it's going to be tough," said Cole. "Any team outside the top six in the Premier League, first and foremost you want to consolidate in the league because it's such a tough competition.

"Obviously you've got Benty coming back and N'Zogbia, and Okore coming back to fitness. I think we'll do all right."
