Interest growing in Ron Vlaar as Aston Villa man stars for Holland
Ron Vlaar's future at Villa is under threat as his World Cup profile advances with Holland's growing challenge for glory.
The 29-year-old central defender is already a target for newly-promoted QPR, who sense a bargain amid Villa's ownership turmoil.
The Dutch defender is one of three prime players who will enter the final year of their contracts next season.
And that is unlikely to be the end of the interest in a player who was yet again impressive in Holland's defeat of Chile last night.
Vlaar is certainly proven in the tough end of Premier League survival having headed up two arduous campaigns as the main man of Villa's back-line.
But he remains close to a free transfer amid the lack of firm direction from the club where owner Randy Lerner is looking to sell on.
Despite continuing speculation about a number of American investors being interested, there has been no concrete progress as yet.
That has led to delays in future financial investments which have impacted on planned talks about new deals for Vlaar as well as Fabian Delph and Gabby Agbonlahor, who are also into their last year from July.
