The Austria international came under fire last season as he and Aston Villa struggled for consistency in their battle against the Premier League drop.

Gabby Agbonlahor is Villa's top Premier League goalscorer on 66 while Weimann has netted 14 times in the top flight, including five last season.

With Christian Benteke likely to be out until Christmas with an Achilles injury and Libor Kozak returning to full fitness after a broken leg the duo are Villa's chief goal threats.

And the 22-year admitted he is well aware of the expectation surrounding him.

He said: "You are always under pressure, if you don't perform I guess you are not going to play. But it's good for the team that we have players coming in that can deliver competition. Every time I play I just try to do my best to keep my place in the team.

"I want to score as many goals as I can but I have a long way to go to beat Gabby's total. Gabby has been in the team for more than six years and we're determined to help each other out."
