Jordan Bowery praises Aston Villa's Paul Lambert
Jordan Bowery today revealed Paul Lambert gave him his blessing to leave Villa and urged him to become a Championship star.
The striker, who never scored for Villa, became Rotherham's record signing after penning a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee at the New York Stadium yesterday.
"Paul Lambert rang me to say 'I've got a great move for you'," he said. "He said to 'go and play there and grab it with both hands it's a good club, it's on the up and you'll do great things there'".
"The club is on the up and after two consecutive promotions you can't ask for better. It's a good chance to play and a good chance to stay up. As a striker I have to be on the front foot and they play an attacking game."
Bowery's only goal in a claret and blue shirt during his two seasons at Villa Park was an own goal against Hull in May.
He joined from Chesterfield in 2012 for £500,000 and made 22 appearances – but just six starts –as he failed to make a serious impact.
The form of Christian Benteke, Andi Weimann and Gabby Agbonlahor kept him on the bench in his first season.
He was loaned out to Doncaster last season but didn't score in the Championship and admitted his jump from Chesterfield to Villa was huge.
"It was a massive jump from League Two to the Premier League but I enjoyed it," said the 22-year-old. "I learned a lot of things working with the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, Darren Bent, Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph.
"I came on against Hull at the end of the season and did well and played against Manchester City, that was a great experience, and then I started again against Spurs. I did alright but hopefully those three games did me well."
