Paul Lambert determined to stay on at Aston Villa
Boss Paul Lambert today accepted responsibility for Villa's poor season – but reiterated he still wants to be in charge next year.
The claret and blues crumbled to a 3-0 defeat at Tottenham yesterday to finish 15th in the Premier League with 38 points – three less than last year.
It was the same amount won by Alex McLeish before he was sacked and replaced by Lambert in 2012.
Chairman Randy Lerner released a statement this morning to confirm his intention to sell – casting doubt on Lambert's future.
The Scot was taunted by Villa fans at White Hart Lane but he insisted he had every intention of being in charge and will be at the player of the year dinner tomorrow night.
"I intend to because I've just bought a bow tie. I don't want to pay three pounds for a bow tie and not turn up," he said.
"It's always the manager (who takes responsibility). It doesn't faze me, I know the game. You take it on board. It's not something I'm going to wilt over. The main thing for me is Aston Villa is a Premier League club. So when those fixtures come out and it's Aston Villa v Manchester United or Chelsea or Man City, that's the main thing."
