Winger Marc Albrighton keen to extend Aston Villa stay
Marc Albrighton today played it cool over his future but insisted he wants to stay at Villa.
The winger is out of contract at the end of the season and boss Paul Lambert has revealed he will hold talks with him.
Villa youth product Albrighton was man of the match in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to West Ham – despite playing just 34 minutes – prompting Lambert to confirm contract discussions.
"I've been here since I was eight so if I can do anything to impress then I will, but I will wait an15 ptd see what happens," he said. "At the moment I'm concentrating on playing as many minutes as I can and luckily I got 90 at Cardiff on Tuesday."
"I'll let other people take care of it.
"It's something I don't want to focus on at the minute. I just want to focus on the football and that's what I'll continue to do."
Albrighton was loaned to Wigan in October after an injury-blighted 2013 where he suffered foot and thigh injuries and underwent an operation on his throat.
But now he feels ready to command a regular place to give Lambert a selection problem.
"I felt all season when I've been given a chance I've taken it and I feel I've performed well," said the 24-year-old. "I'll keep doing that, keep trying to impress and keep working hard and doing what I'm told.
"My performances will look after that, if I can perform well I can give the manager a headache and hopefully he'll struggle to leave me out.
"It's all about games at the minute for me. If I can get as many minutes as I can I'll be happy. Luckily I've got a start against Cardiff and 90 minutes under my belt."
Villa are heading to a training camp in Portugal as they take advantage of their break ahead of a trip to Newcastle on Sunday week.
They are four points above the Premier League relegation zone and Albrighton rued their missed chances in Tuesday's 0-0 draw at Cardiff.
He added: "We're just working hard. The weekend was a disappointment but at Cardiff we gave a good account of ourselves with our second half performance and we should have won the game."
