Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is targeting transfer deadline day splash
Villa boss Paul Lambert today admitted he is facing a race against time to beat the transfer deadline.
The claret and blues chief insisted he is still chasing new recruits – but ruled out a move for Tottenham's Lewis Holtby.
Villa beat Albion 4-3 in a derby thriller last night to clinch their first home league win since early November and only their third of the season.
And Lambert, who has not given up on landing Norwich's Wes Hoolahan, will now focus on beating tomorrow's 11pm deadline.
He said: "There are about 15 things I'm trying to do at the minute. If one comes off, great. If none come off it's fine. I've not heard one about Holtby."
Victory moved Villa eight points clear of the drop zone and kept them 10th in the Premier League as they target catching Southampton.
Christian Benteke grabbed a penalty winner after Andi Weimann, Leandro Bacuna and Fabian Delph scored as Villa came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2.
Chris Brunt and a Delph own goal had the Baggies in control before Villa rallied with Youssouf Mulumbu then making it 3-3 just before half-time.
The Saints are five points ahead after their 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Tuesday and Lambert believes Villa can hunt them down.
He said: "You just keep going, they are the next team above us. They are five points above us and we keep going to the next target.
"Since the turn of the year our league form is pretty decent. The away form is there for anyone to see. If you reversed it nobody would really question what was going on. Scoring four goals at home will certainly please people."
And after their first victory over the Baggies since December 2010 Lambert dedicated the win to Villa's fans.
He added: "After six minutes, it was horrendous. I've had some really good times as a manager, massive games we've won, and it's up there. I know how important it is for the supporters.
"They have that until the next derby comes along, they have the bragging rights."
