Villa boss Paul Lambert hails Gabby Agbonlahor
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert today hailed Gabby Agbonlahor's goalscoring heroics and admitted strike partner Christian Benteke looked burned out.
The Villa boss reckons Agbonlahor has eased the burden off top scorer Benteke as Villa close in on Premier League survival.
Agbonlahor's brace in Saturday's 2-1 win at Norwich made it six goals in seven games – 12 for the season – and took Villa to 40 points.
They are 13th and after victory at his former club Lambert praised Agbonlahor for taking the pressure off his brilliant Belgian.
Lambert said: "I think you can even throw Charles (N'Zogbia) into that mix but Gabby came up with two fantastic goals to win it.
"There are goals in this team. There are from Andreas Weimann, who had a brilliant chance that he missed.
"Benteke has been outstanding and I thought he was off it on Saturday, looking fatigued from Monday."
Benteke was well marshalled by Norwich and escaped with just a second-half yellow card after grabbing Sebastien Bassong by the throat.
But Lambert said: "Christan takes kicks all the time. He doesn't need me to look after him."
