Worcestershire duo Isaac Mohammed and Jack Home have both been called up by England under-19s for the forthcoming one-day international series against India.

Mohammed, who recently signed for the Pears after starring for Smethwick in the Birmingham League, is the only uncapped player in the 15-strong squad which will be captained by Somerset’s Thomas Rew.

Home, from Shrewsbury, toured South Africa with the U19s in January. The 19-year-old, who plays for Shifnal in the Birmingham League, made his first-class debut for Worcestershire last September.

“We are absolutely delighted for Isaac and Jack,” said Pears head coach, Alan Richardson. “They’ve worked incredibly hard and shown real character and quality throughout the past few months.

“Jack has progressed through our ranks and really worked hard for this opportunity.

“Isaac, despite only joining us recently, has burst onto the scene with his eye-catching batting style.

“This call-up is a fantastic opportunity for them to test themselves at international level and a proud moment for the club.”

Mohammed’s call-up comes just a few weeks after he moved across the Midlands from Edgbaston to New Road.

The nephew of Moeen Ali and current Worcestershire assistant, Kadeer Ali, the 17-year-old has been in superb form for Smethwick this season and his signing is considered something of a coup for the Pears.

England U19s first face India at Hove on June 27, before two matches each at Northampton and New Road, the latter two games taking place on July 5 and 7.
