Dudley's Ryan Aston signing off for summer

Dudley's Ryan Aston will sign off for the rest of summer with a six-rounder against Simone Lucas at Aston Villa Football Club's Holte Suite.

'Tank' will get back up to speed with his 15th pro fight on Saturday July 12, then target getting back in the hunt for domestic titles by the end of the year.

The 23-year-old last clobbered Bulgarian Stanislav Nenkov by sixth round stoppage at Dudley's the Venue on June 7 and is gunning to knock-out Lucas.

But Nottingham's 'Lucky' Lucas is not to be under-estimated, as Leeds' Adil Anwar will testify after the Prizefighter winner was outpointed by him last year.

Aston has no intentions of adding to the one defeat on his paid ledger and will look to pick apart his fellow Midlander, with precise work, come fight night.

There's no room for error if the well-schooled southpaw is to follow Midlands champion Jason Welborn, from Rowley Regis, into British title eliminators.

He said: "I have got a lad who I have seen before and he is tough little fighter. He likes to throw wild shots and does not attack with any combinations in fazes.

"I feel good up to this fight and training has obviously been carried on from last time at the Venue, so there's been no rest but I wouldn't have it any other way.

"I want to be as busy as possible, now I'm at the new weight of light middle and I'm looking forward to fighting again on July 12 over in Birmingham.

"I have been sparring with the likes of Lennox Clarke, Craig Cunningham and Jason Welborn, along with a few others. Preparation has been going well.

"I'm in a good place, at this moment in time, and ready to kick on. I would like to say a big thanks to my trainers, sponsors and manager Paul Gough.

"I appreciate all their support and hard work that they put in. And a big thanks to all my fans, who have been buying tickets to support me through my fights."
