Aston's Chris Truman will box Lenny Daws next week as planned - but the bout will not be for the vacant English light welterweight title.

The British Boxing Board of Control have refused to approve the fight as for the English crown, so it will go ahead as an eight-rounder.

Daws would have been passed as a challenger, as an ex-holder of the title and former two-time British champion.

But Truman's relative inexperience after 10 pro fights has convinced the board to decree he is not yet ready for a shot at the belt.

'The Trumanator' will, however, go for his first title against Midlands light welterweight champion Dave Ryan in Burton on March 31.

First the 27-year-old will compete in front of the Channel Five cameras against Daws, at the Magna Centre in Rotherham next Saturday night.
