Two out of three ain't bad for Priory Park ABC in Dudley as a duo of their fighters advanced to the semi-finals of the ABA Novice national championships.

But there was heartbreak for lightweight Danial Hussain, who didn't wake up before it was too late and was subsequently outpointed 23-13 by Joe Branch, of the Combined Services Boxing Association.

However, there was better luck for bantamweight Josh Aston –cousin of pro Ryan – who overcame one of the Forces' finest on points, well beating the CSBA's Caleb Salero by 26-13.

Another fighter from Priory Park joined Aston in the last four as featherweight Vakar Hussain pipped Marcel Braithwaite, from the Golden Gloves ABC in Liverpool, to the post in an 11-10 win.

All that action came in Class A, boxers who have had 10 bouts or under.

In Class B – fighters who have had 20 bouts or under – Wednesbury ABC's Dale Doody, in the lowest weight category of light fly, 'walked over' to the semi-finals, with no opponent to box.
