Dudley's Danial Hussain overcame a qualifying hurdle to join three Black Country fighters in the quarter-finals of the ABA Novice national championships.

Hussain bested Doncaster Plant ABC's Sonnet Duhrie in a 12-7 points decision in the pre-quarters at the Worley Hotel in Scunthorpe yesterday.

But Andrew Robinson, from the Lions ABC in Dudley, bowed out after succumbing, again on points by 19-17, to York ABC's Paul Gordon.

Priory Park's Vakar Hussain and Josh Aston – cousin of pro Ryan – both progressed without boxing, as did Wednesbury ABC's Dale Doody.
