Tividale's Jason Welborn has warned Sean McKervey he will be able to mix it up anyway he wants when the two clash for the Midlands welterweight title.

Welborn and champion McKervey collide for the area crown in the main event of a four-fight dinner show at Walsall Town Hall on November 18.

The challenger has power as a puncher while Coventry's McKervey is twice as experienced, with this his fourth title fight after 14 paid outings.

But Welborn turned pro the year before his opponent, in 2005, although 2011 has been his busiest period to date, with three straight points wins since June.

Two of those victories came while still nursing a broken right hand and forced him to box, rather than rely on the power that has brought him two stoppages in seven bouts.

And the 25-year-old believes that has helped him to progress into a more dangerous fighter, with the skill to keep up with McKervey if the fight goes the 10-round distance.

Welborn also believes his early experiences as a sparring partner for Dudley's Darren McDermott, who challenged for all of the domestic belts before retiring last year, will stand him in good stead.

He said: "I know Sean is a strong fighter who is awkward, he's fit and keeps coming. I know what to be doing on the night when he walks forward, let my combinations go and use my power.

"If he wants to stand there and make it a hard night for himself, he can. If the right hand comes, it comes. I have built up the rounds in my last couple of fights and I know I can do the distance.

"I have had loads of experience with southpaws, I have sparred hundreds of rounds with all sorts of fighters, amateur and pro.

"I sparred with Darren McDermott for his English, British and Commonwealth title shots, that was another good experience for me.

"But, now, this is my time to shine."
