Wolves target Craig Gardner has admitted his future is unclear as the shockwaves continue from Alex McLeish's Birmingham walkout.

Gardner is one of four Blues players Wolves are eyeing following relegation at St. Andrew's.

Sunderland will offer stiff competition for Wolves as they look to replace £20million Jordan Henderson and the Black Cats are understood to have made an inquiry for the former Villa midfielder, who is in big demand after his best season which saw him score 10 goals.

And the 24-year-old revealed he is in limbo while the club is in turmoil, with no manager and several star players set to leave.

He said: "It's a difficult one and I'm unsure exactly what's happening behind the scenes and what the board are thinking.

"Like every other player, you have to think of your career. I've just had my best season, I felt at home in the Premier League, it's the best league in the world, and now we've gone down to the Championship.

"Where are we going, what are we planning to do? I don't know.

"It's not a good start to the summer losing Alex. There's a cloud over everybody's head.

"Nobody knows what's happening. We've gone down to the Championship, we've lost our manager.

"Are players leaving? Is money going to be spent?"
