Seb Larsson today revealed Blues' Carling Cup fate could hold the key to his St Andrew's future.

The midfielder is out of contract in June and was the subject of a public bid from Newcastle in January. But he has shrugged off speculation on his future to focus on Sunday's Wembley final with Arsenal — and admitted Blues' success this term will have a bearing on his decision.

"Yes of course it does," said the Sweden international. "Any player in the dressing room wants to become better and be part of a better team. That doesn't necessarily mean a different team. Hopefully that is the way the club is heading, to a better future.

"For myself, we will just have to wait and see what is going to happen after this summer. I have left that stuff behind and I just want to concentrate on football."

The 25-year-old signed for Birmingham from Arsenal in 2007 after a successful loan spell and insisted he is delighted with the club's progress.

"I didn't expect is to be playing Champions League, so a major cup final will do," he said. "The club is on the right track.

"Apart from the last game in the league we have done better lately and more like we were last season. Hopefully we can push on and be more like we were last season and become a solid Premier League team. A major cup final is great progress for the club and we are still in the quarter-final of the FA Cup so we are definitely going in the right direction."
