A late winner from Scott Dann with a minute to go at Blackpool lifted Birmingham out of the relegation places.

It looked as if Blues would have to settle for a point after DJ Campbell's second-half equaliser cancelled out Alexander Hleb's opener before the break, but Dann was the hero for the visitors after prodding the ball home in the 89th minute.

And it was good fortune that had given Alex McLeish's men the lead in the 24th minute at Bloomfield Road.

Home defender Stephen Crainey, under no pressure, passed the ball straight across his own goal to Hleb, who sped into the area and nutmegged goalkeeper Richard Kingson to score.

But Blackpool restored parity through Campbell in the 68th minute, the striker volleying in from the penalty spot after Gary Taylor-Fletcher headed Neal Eardley's cross into his path.

That looked to be enough for a draw until the winner with seconds of normal time remaining, substitute Jean Beausejour's deep cross nodded down by Roger Johnson for central defensive partner Dann to slot the ball in.

Three welcome points for Blues takes them out of the bottom three and to 15th in the Premier League table, ahead of 16th-placed Albion on goal difference.
