Striker Nikola Zigic believes his first Premier League goal can kick-start his Birmingham career.

The giant Serb has struggled for form since his £6million summer arrival from Valencia but netted for the first time in England's top flight in last weekend's 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.

It was only his second start in the Premier League, with the 6ft 8in forward having been previously restricted to mainly substitute roles.

But Zigic now intends to show the St Andrew's faithful his true potential.

He said: "I'm delighted Alex McLeish put faith in me by playing me from the start.

"It's taken a bit of time, but I'm feeling a lot better and stronger and that comes more with each game. I relished the opportunity and I always give my all.

"Hopefully I can keep improving and Arsenal will be the start of a nice long run in the team.

"That is what I would like and it would help me get better and hopefully be good for us."

Zigic assured fans struggling Blues will be gunning for Blackpool on Saturday.

He added: "We played well at Arsenal and although we didn't get anything from the game, hopefully our performance will give us a bit of a kick-start.

"I am sure we will give everything we have got to get a result in what is an important game in front of our fans on Saturday."
