Adam Peaty adds to his world record haul but is adamant there is more to come
Swimming star Adam Peaty stormed to his 12th world record but insisted “I can go faster” in the 100m breaststroke short course.
The 25-year-old Olympic champion, from Staffordshire, achieved the feat in an International Swimming League event in Budapest to help his London Roar franchise qualify for next week’s grand final.
The 55.49 seconds record, beating South African Cameron van der Burgh’s effort of 55.61 which had stood for 11 years, is Peaty’s first short course record – in a 25m pool as opposed to 50m.
Peaty has been in good form, also setting a British record if 25.48 in the skins 50m breaststroke.
He said: “It’s my first short course world record, which I struggle with but no-one works harder on the last length and that one was for my family.
“It’s all a learning process and it’s not my best swim. I know it’s a world record, but I can go faster.”
The ISL was launched in 2019, where more than 300 of the world’s top swimmers compete in teams for a grand final place.
