The Wednesfield-born ace, who won bronze at London 2012, has teamed up with the Shropshire-based Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club as head of their recreational programme.

Thomas retired from competition in the autumn after a glittering career which saw him become double European champion and winner of a silver medal at the World Championships.

He collected a total of 14 major international medals during his career and led Team GB’s gymnastics squad during the Rio 2016 Olympics.

And the 28-year-old, who now lives near Cannock, said: ‘I could not have found a better club at which to start the next chapter of my life in gymnastics. Park Wrekin already has many outstanding coaches and I am privileged to become a part of their team.

“I hope that I can bring just a little of my knowledge and enjoyment of the sport to aspiring gymnasts in the Telford and West Midlands area.”

Christine Still, head coach at the Telford club, said: “We are all very excited by Kristian joining our coaching team.

“He is a world-class gymnast and his enthusiasm and experience will be an inspiration for all our members.”

Thomas takes up his post today.
